Testimonials

I have co-edited The Specusphere with Satima for many years. She took over an ailing book review section of the magazine and turned it into one of the most widely read speculative fiction review pages in the country. During our time together on the magazine we have never met face-to-face; all our correspondence has been via email. The difficulties of email correspondence are notorious, especially in times of high stress, such as meeting publishing deadlines; however, I have always found Satima to be cool, calm and level-headed, and she has always produced the highest quality work. It has been a pleasure having her as a colleague, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her as an editor for writers of all types: fiction, nonfiction, corporate or academic.

It was so lovely to work with Satima, who proofread my thesis. She is very professional in her approach. She always showed great interest in my efforts. Her suggestions and positive reinforcement helped and encouraged me to produce better academic work. Further, she provided the professional relationship with a human touch, and this was very important to me. All of these distinguish her from the others. Thank you very much, Satima!

Don’t be fooled by Satima’s diaphanous image, she has a razor sharp eye for inconsistencies in style and form and will also advise on how your work corresponds with reader preferences. I only wish I had invested in one of her (very reasonable) mini assessments before I submitted my children’s novel to some agents. She admits to taking a ‘tough love’ approach to editing, so if you only want to hear nice things about your work, I suggest you show it to your mum.

(Satima) is an excellent proof-reader and a great academic editor. Her personal approach and wide-ranging knowledge enable her to work within a wide range of disciplines. I felt blessed to find how well her strengths suited my needs. I was finding it difficult to get the right English words to express my innermost thoughts and feelings, but Satima’s understanding and insight captured my intentions. I wish I had known her 15 years ago, so I never would have had to struggle to put artistic feeling into words.

I recently received a mini-assessment from Satima. In less time than it takes to receive a standard rejection, she read, edited, and returned a detailed, impressive and professional package on my novel. First, she listed the work’s strengths (my favorite part), and then the issues, large and small, that could be revised to better it. Not only did she note grammatical errors, but the included report also listed general improvements that could be made, helpful examples, and basic writing info. The whole process was painless; Satima responds in a positive, friendly manner that makes it easy to see where you need to make adjustments, even if you have an emotional attachment to your story (and who doesn’t). It was worth every penny!

I worked with Satima on my first children’s book, Hal Junior: The Secret Signal, and the process was stress-free from beginning to end. During the first pass Satima highlighted a number of plot-related matters and inconsistencies, and in the second pass she picked up the usual typos and errors we authors are prone to. As a result I’m confident my novel was released in a professional state, and I wouldn’t hesitate to use Satima’s editing service in future.
